También texto en español. It was under grey skies and temperatures as low as -14ºC in the Rocky mountains, that over 100 athletes battled it out for the first Pan-American titles. The hard snow pack made for a fast run with 3 athletes under 30 minutes for the flat 8 kilometres. Brian Smith took a short lead of 20 seconds over Josiah Middaug and Mike Kloser. Among the women the star of the day , Keli Nelson and very early on showed her dominance on the run, finishing almost four minutes ahead of Emily Deppe.

The bike course was perfectly prepared and all of the 15 kilometres were groomed well which made for fast riding. Some of the top athletes averaged speeds close to 20 kilometres per hour over a challenging circuit. Mike Closer put in a strong bike to take the lead into transition two. There was a group of six athletes all battling for podium positions at the beginning of the ski leg. Keli Nelson, a phenomenal biker increased her lead to over ten minutes.

Mike Closer put in the fastest ski of the day to take the gold medal with Brian Smith finishing second and a long sprint decided the third position in favour of Spencer Powlison. Nelson comfortable took the women’s title to finish the race ten minutes ahead of Gretchen Reeves and over 16 minutes ahead of third place finisher Heather Best.

Fue bajo cielos grises y temperaturas tan bajas como -14 º C en las Montañas Rocosas, donde más de 100 atletas pelearon por los primeros títulos panamericanos. La nieve dura hizo que fuese una carrera rápida con 3 atletas por debajo de 30 minutos para 8 kilómetros lisos. Brian Smith se hizo con una ligera ventaja de 20 segundos sobre Josiah Middaug y Mike Kloser. Entre las mujeres la estrella del día, Keli Nelson quien muy al principio demostró su predominio corriendo, terminando casi cuatro minutos delante de Emily Deppe.

La carrera en bici fue perfectamente preparada y los 15 kilómetros fueron bien cepillados lo que hizo que fuese rápida. Algunos de los mejores atletas hicieron un promedio de velocidades cerca de 20 kilómetros por hora sobre un circuito competitivo. Mike Closer fue fuerte en la bici lo que le permitió tomar la delantera en la segunda transición. Había un grupo de seis atletas luchando por las posiciones de podio al principio del esquí de fondo. Keli Nelson, un ciclista fenomenal aumentó su ventaja a más de diez minutos.

Mike Closer puso en juego el esquí de fondo más veloz del día para hacerse con la medalla de oro con Brian Smith en segunda posición y un sprint largo decidió la tercera posición a favor de Spencer Powlison. Nelson cómodamente se hizo con el título de las mujeres para terminar la carrera diez minutos por delante de Gretchen Reeves y más de 16 minutos delante de la tercera, Heather Mejor.
