Huawei partners with PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London

The International Triathlon Union has today announced that Huawei, the world’s leading information and communications technology company, will be the official technology sponsor of the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London 2013.

This year marks the fourth time an event of the ITU World Triathlon Series has been staged in London, but the first time that London will host the Grand Final. The Grand Final races will be held at the iconic Olympic venue in Hyde Park from 11-15 September 2013, giving all athletes the opportunity to compete on the same stage as the 2012 Olympians. Huawei will be represented in the Hyde Park Experience Zone, VIP Hospitality Zone, and is inviting 30 customers and employees to participate in the open sprint triathlon.

The PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final London will be broadcast live on TV to an international audience spanning more than 160 countries, as well as streamed online.

Marisol Casado President of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and IOC Member said, “We are very excited Huawei will be a partner of the Grand Final in London. Huawei is dedicated to bringing the latest technology to consumers by creating extraordinary and differentiated experiences, just as triathlon is a unique experience for each athlete.”

Mark Mitchinson Huawei UK Executive Vice President said: “We are delighted to announce our support of the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final. Huawei is dedicated to bringing the latest technology to consumers and is proud to support events that reflect its vision of excellence and possibility.  The triathlon competition elements themselves mirror the key attributes of the Ascend P6 – Huawei’s flagship device and the world’s slimmest smartphone.  Swimming reflects the grace and elegance of the P6’s design; cycling, its strength and durability; and running, its endurance and unrivalled battery life.”

Upsolut, the marketing agency of the ITU World Triathlon Series and an agency of the Lagardere Unlimited Group, brokered the partnership. Tim Stemp, Chief Commercial Officer of the ITU World Triathlon Series said, “Triathlon is an increasingly popular sport for professional, driven audiences and it is very exciting to partner with Huawei to develop a technology experience that will allow our mutual audiences to engage with individual performance data and Huawei technology.”

The event is being organised in partnership between Upsolut Sports UK and British Triathlon and is part of UK Sport’s Gold Events Series, the UK’s legacy programme of major international sporting events. It is supported by the Mayor of London being one of the first major Olympic legacy events happening in London post the London 2012 Olympic Games. London will welcome more than 8,500 participants from around the world competing for Elite, U23, Juniors, Paratriathlon and Age-Group World Championship Titles. In addition, there will be an Open Age-Group Race, enabling participants of all abilities to experience triathlon in Hyde Park on much of the same course as the Elites.
